Zambia's Newest Priests - Part 2

 

Zambia’s seminarians, having completed their minor seminary studies at Emmaus Spiritual centre, next working through the eight-year seminary preparation that follows the Emmaus introductory level. Only with the help of donors like the Canadian supporters of Pontifical Missions Societies, can Zambia keep up with the growing desire of Zambian men who feel called to the priesthood.

Goal

 

The goal of Program Nine is to introduce students to the rigorous program that Zambia’s candidates for the priesthood go through over a number of years. Interviews with Cardinal Medardo Joseph Mazombwe, George Mpundu, Fr. Leonard Namuhumba, Fr. Paul Simukanzye, Fr. Benjamin Phiri, and Fr. Bernard Zulu.

 

Steps

 

1. Show the internet TV DVD Program Nine: Zambia's Newest Priests - Part 2

 

2. Ask students to form small groups to describe the following:

  • Describe some aspects of training for candidates thinking
    about becoming priests in Zambia.
  • What do people in charge of training priests in Zambia think
    are the most important qualities of being a priest in Zambia?
  • What is your favourite comment from Zambia's Church leaders
    in this video and explain why?
  • What does the Canadian Church need to learn from the Zambian
    Church?
  • Give three reasons why Canadian Catholics should support the work of the Church in Zambia.

 

3. Option for Take-Home Assignment

 

1. Via the Internet find more facts about:

  • Roman Catholic Missionary history and its current situation as a growing Church.
  • The Church in Zambia and how its population fits into the overall religious character of the country.
  • Describe how students can help Propagation of the Faith support Catholics and their work in Zambia.
  • Locate Lusaka Archdiocese on a map of Zambia.

 

2. In groups, make presentations to the class about any or all of the above.
