India, as one of the world’s fastest growing economies, has brought millions into affluence and wealth, but there are still millions of poor left behind. Working on that is a huge challenge for the Church of India.

Goal

 

The goal of Program Four is to introduce students to the ongoing situation of poverty for many people in India through interviews with Bangalore Archbishop Bernard Moras, Bishop Singaroyan, Sister Charles and Sr. Alkine, plus some school kids who are getting an education through the Church.

 

Steps

 

1. Show the internet TV DVD Program Four: Educating India's Poor

 

2. Ask students to form small groups to describe the following:

  • Why is education so important for India’s young people who are poor?
    about becoming priests in Zambia.
  • How do Canadians help through the Holy Childhood Society?
  • Why does the Church help all young people. No matter what their Faith?
  • Give three reasons why Canadian Catholics should support the
    work of the Church in India.

 

3. Option for Take-Home Assignment

 

1. Via the Internet find more facts about:

  • Poverty in India and what it is like to be poor there.
  • What happens when young people get a better education than their parents can afford.
  • Find out how Canadian Catholics support the work of the Church in India.
  • Describe how students can help Propagation of the Faith
    support Catholics and their work in India.
  • Describe exactly how Holy Childhood kids in Canada and elsewhere help India’s Catholic Church.

 

2. In groups, make presentations to the class about any or all of the above.
