Goal

 

The goal of Program Two is to introduce students to the work of Canadian missionary Fr. Bran Quigley and his work in Malawi.

 

Steps

 

1. Show the internet TV DVD Program Two: A Day in the Life of a Missionary

 

2. Ask students to form small groups to describe the following impressions from the video:

  • Describe the main character presented in this DVD and say what it is he is trying to do for the people of Malawi. How does he combine his religious convictions with social action? Describe a typical day in his missionary life.
  • What have we learned about the Catholic Church in its support of Malawi’s people?
  • What did you know after viewing the DVD that you didn’t know before?
  • Give three reasons why Canadian Catholics should support the work of Catholic missionaries in Malawi

 

3. Option for Take-Home Assignment

 

1. Via the Internet find more facts about:

  • The Catholic Church in Malawi, its population, the role it has played in Malawi’s history.
  • What are the key ways the Church is trying to help the people of Malawi today?

 

2. In groups, make presentations to the class about any or all of the above.
