The Face of the Blessed Mother
Br. Daniel Korn, CSsR
Redemptorist, Denver Province:
Through devotion to the Mother of God my family was led to a deeper experience of Christ. The church teaches us that Mary’s mission is that of leading others to Christ. In the Icon of Our Mother of Perpetual Help we encounter Mary as one who points the way to Christ, she is the “way shower” – the “sign” that proclaims the mystery of Christ to the world.

The Hands of the Virgin of Perpetual Help
Br. Daniel Korn, CSsR
Redemptorist, Denver Province:
When we turn our attention to the right hand of Mary we see that it is straight and pointing directly into the heart center of the Infant. If we take a ruler and place it on the tip of the middle finger of Mary’s hand we can draw a line directly through the heart of the Infant up to the Cross the angel is holding.
This visual line and the intense vision of the Infant towards the Cross the Angel is holding, informs us that this is no ordinary little baby.

The Child God in Arms of Mary
Br. Daniel Korn, CSsR
Redemptorist, Denver Province:
This scripture proclaims the essential meaning of the infant/God in the Icon of Our Mother of Perpetual Help. Jesus, in humility and service as the Word made flesh took on our human condition in order to redeem us. This is presented to us in the symbols, colors, shapes and position of the Child as we read and pray this image of the Child/Logos in the Icon of Our Mother of Perpetual Help.

The Angels in the Icon
Br. Daniel Korn, CSsR
Redemptorist, Denver Province:
We are in relationship with the mysteries of the Incarnation, Passion and Resurrection when we allow ourselves to gaze in prayer upon the action that is happening between the four figures in this Icon.
Our Mother of Perpetual Help is much more than just a nice holy picture of Jesus and Mary. The Icon is a powerful book filled with divine grace for us who read and pray it.

The Gold Background
Br. Daniel Korn, CSsR
Redemptorist, Denver Province:
The golden background of the Icon and the circular halos around the images of Mary and Jesus invite us to contemplate Christ and the Mother of God already living in the full glory of the Kingdom of Heaven.
The Church is always filled with the Light of God. The symbol of light is woven throughout our Catholic faith. Our Prayers, Liturgy and Art bring to our constant attention the reality of this Divine, Illuminated concept of Light.
