Immaculate Conception
Archbishop Richard Gagnon
Archdiocese of Winnipeg:
Even though the belief that Mary was conceived in the womb of her mother St. Ann without the stain of Original Sin, has very ancient roots in the Church
-it wasn't until December 8th, 1854 that Pope Pius IX made it official in
the Church when he stated Ex Cathedra : " A doctrine revealed by God and
therefore to be believed firmly and constantly by all the Faithful that the
Blessed Virgin Mary in the first instance of her conception was, by a unique grace and privilege of Almighty God, in view of the merits of Jesus Christ the Savior of the human race, preserved from the stain of Original Sin."....

Mary`s Joy
Archbishop Richard Gagnon
Archdiocese of Winnipeg:
As we unpack this mystery of the Presentation we see that Mary, as a Jewish mother had to fulfill the requirements of the Law for herself - according to Scripture , a mother needed to be purified after childbirth and on the 40th
day after her child's birth she would go to the Temple and make an offering
-the poor could not give much -the prescribed offering for the poor was a
pair of turtle doves or two young pigeons -we see how poor Mary and Joseph
were!

Assumption of Mary
Archbishop Richard Gagnon
Archdiocese of Winnipeg:
When I think of Mary's Assumption, the word hope comes to mind. Hope is everything because without it, we have great difficulty living ..it is Hope which allows a person to keep going.it is divine hope in God that gives life meaning, tells us where we are going and what we must do and how we are to live...so many people today lack real hope because knowledge of the true God has been forgotten or pushed aside....
